Late Victorian Scottish Francis East & Co. Windsor side chair c.1890-1910.
A unique, original and beautifully designed lowland joined side chair from Dundee, Scotland. Likely to be constructed from imported American birch used in Scotland for chair manufacture in the 19th Century.
Manufactured by Francis East & Co. of Dundee, as a Windsor side chair with a unique design to the East family (Francis East & Co. from c.1876 and East Brothers, pattern 375 from 1895).
The chair combines three-ring turned legs and a contoured scalloped seat including a serpentine front. The back has decoratively reeded uprights and top rail. The back spindles are beautifully simulated bamboo in design with a touch of regency faux chinoiserie.
Lovely condition with gorgeous patination.
